About this strand
Welcome to the Secondary strand of the citizED project.
The secondary strand covers the 11-16 years phase (key stages 3 and 4). The site has its roots in Initial Teacher Education and to this end will be of interest and value to providers of 11-16 years Citizenship ITE courses including HEI tutors, beginning teachers of Citizenship and associated school-based mentors and Newly Qualified Teachers. The site also aims to support the training needs of SCITTs, GTP and Teach First routes as well as those on a more traditional PGCE route into teaching. However, the CitizED project in its latter years extended its reach and interested readership to all of those with an interest in the area of Citizenship education including secondary Citizenship co-ordinators, Local Authority advisors and education officers from NGOs. The aim of the strand is to identify the key issues affecting high quality teaching and learning in secondary Citizenship Education and address these through a range of accessible and relevant research papers, activities and resources. The site has become a repository for much good and innovative practice in the area of Citizenship education.
